It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Finding the perfect tree, decorating the house, baking cookies, attending holiday parties, searching for that special gift, or spending time with my family in Colorado; these are some of my favorite things about the Christmas holiday. I love the preparations, setting out my mother’s ancient decorations, the way the house smells when the gingerbread cookies are in the oven. When he was a little boy my son once told me that waiting for it to happen was the best part of Christmas. I tend to agree.  I’m not a great shopper, but when I was In Italy in October I bought gifts for everyone on my list and was thrilled to carry them home and tuck them away for Christmas. All summer I picked and dried a bumper crop of basil and made little paper boxes to wrap my bounty in so I could share it with some very special people. I made an ornament for each of my granddaughters from a photo I took of them when they visited this summer.  I’ve watched my favorite Christmas movies and added a new Christmas CD to my iPod.  As soon as December first rolls around the spirit hits me and carries me right through New Year’s Day.  Just like the song says, to me “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.”

Whatever pleases you this holiday season, may it come to you in great measure.  Whatever you celebrate may your days be merry and bright, and may your new year be filled with love, laughter, and great memories.
